AILET 2020 exam analysis by Karan Mehta, Director, LegalEdge Tutorials

The National Testing Agency (NTA) today conducted the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), for admission to one of India’s premier law schools, National Law University, Delhi. Anxious students who appeared in the exam can now lay their hands on the exam analysis of AILET to figure out the expected cut off, overall exam level and other important tidbits about the exam, including distribution of questions.

Karan Mehta, the Director of LegalEdge Tutorials, has shared a detailed analysis of AILET 2020, which is presented here for the student.

AILET exam analysis 2020, Exam Review

English Language: The Reading Comprehension wasn’t straight forward. Also, questions on sentence correction and vocabulary were ticky, as one could easily make a silly mistake. Questions in this section were asked from Reading Comprehension, Questions on Grammar (Sentence Correction, Parts of Speech, ) and Vocabulary (Idioms and Phrases, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms ).

Mathematics: There were around 2-3 questions that were tough but could be solved by students who are genuinely good with Math and numbers. Questions from Permutations and Combinations, Mixtures and Allegations, Arithmetic Mean, Profit Loss and Discounts, Interest, Pricing etc) were asked in this section.

Logical Reasoning: Questions in this section included problems on LR. This section had questions from Circular Arrangement, Puzzle, Clocks and Calendars, Blood Relations, Short Passages (Critical Reasoning), Coding-Decoding etc.

Legal Aptitude: Accuracy is going to be a big factor to do well in the Legal Knowledge section. Principle-Fact based questions were lengthy but students who clear AILET are the ones who have spent time practising such types of questions. The ratio of questions asked between Legal Knowledge and Legal Reasoning Questions is 50:50. Questions related to Legal Knowledge were mostly sourced from latest Legal Events.

General Knowledge: The section was comparatively easy, so one could expect a high score in this section from all those who will clear the cut-offs. Static GK was a bit tricky, compared to Current Affairs, which had mostly straight forward questions. Expected cut off, difficulty level and good attempt

Section Good Attempts Level of Difficulty

English Language 20 + Moderate-Tough

Mathematics         6 + Moderate-Tough

Logical Reasoning 25 + Moderate

Legal Aptitude         22 + Moderate-Tough

General Knowledge 22 + Easy-Moderate

Total                 110 +

Expected Cut-Off 82-84

Mr. Mehta along with sharing exam analysis also shared his thoughts on the conduct of the exam in the times of COVID pandemic ”AILET has always been the ‘The Toughest’ of all the UG Law Entrances held every year but AILET 2020, like 2020, was surprising and unlike 2020, wasn’t shocking. AILET 2020 wasn’t on the typical lines of the Previous Years’ Papers of AILET. The conducting body ensured some respite for the takers, knowing 2020 was already very heavy for them.”

AILET gets the ball rolling for major exams, as CLAT scheduled next

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, AILET is the first major law entrance exam to be conducted at physical test centres.

The most popular law entrance exam, CLAT 2020 will be conducted on September 28 at around 203 test centres across all the states in the country. The test will be conducted in online, centre-based mode, just like AILET. Given the pandemic situation, stringent safety measures will be in place in all exam centres. Students are also expected to maintain social distancing, wear masks and gloves, and carry sanitizers.
